Gurgaon, which has earned the nickname of Cyber City for hosting companies from across the world, has a history of changing names, political boundaries and demographics

The Haryana government has decided to change the name of Gurgaon district to Gurugram, an ancient description for a place identified with swanky malls, luxury apartments and state-of-the-art offices.

According to popular culture, Gurgaon got its name from Guru Dronacharya, the teacher of the Pandavas in the epic Mahabharata. It is said the Pandavas gifted a village to Drona as gurudakshina, and hence, the area came to be known as Gurugram (master’s village), which in the course of time was distorted to Gurgaon.

KC Yadav, a noted historian who taught at the Kurukshetra University for three decades, said the city was known as Gurgaon Masani in the pre-Independence era.

A penthouse atop a 60-floor building in an upcoming luxury project in Gurgaon has been priced at ₹ 100 crore by Delhi-based Raheja Developers. Dubbed as “India’s most expensive apartment”, the 10,000-square feet penthouse will sport a private swimming pool overlooking the Aravali mountains and access to a roof-top helipad.
The floor-to-floor height of the penthouse would be over 15 feet, while all interior fittings and fixtures would be supplied by luxury brand Versace. The ultra-costly penthouse will have 6 bedrooms and a private clubhouse. It would also sport artificial intelligence home automation system, the company claimed.

The company is undertaking proper due diligence before discussing the property with prospective clients, the company’s spokesperson said.

Which is the fastest growing area in Gurgaon?

Sector 95
Sector 95 is a prime residential locality and well-connected to other parts of the city via Dwarka Expressway, Western Peripheral Expressway and NH-48. It is one of the most rapidly developing areas with planned metro connectivity on the proposed line from Gurgaon railway station to Balwal. Also, the sector receives canal water supply, providing immense relief to the dwellers. Presence of reputed educational institutes, shopping complexes and entertainment avenues has further created a good reason for the residents to invest in residential properties. Some of the residential societies providing properties within Rs 60 lakh in this sector are Signature Global Aspire, Ramsons Kshitij, and Sidhartha NCR Greens.

Sector 89
This sector is located along Dwarka Expressway, which is expected to decrease the travelling time between Gurgaon and Delhi and establish direct connectivity between Delhi and Manesar. Garhi Harsaru Junction Railway Station is the nearest railway station at around three km. Moreover, there are two major roads, IMT Road and Pataudi Road that provide excellent connectivity to this sector. Some projects within Rs 60 lakh in Sector 89, New Gurgaon, are Signature Global Proxima, MRG The Meridian and Pareena Rama Homes.

Some of the residential societies offering homes within Rs 60 lakh in this sector are Trehan Iris Broadway, Orris Aster Court and Orris Carnation Residency.
